Setting Up Irys

Setting up Irys is a straightforward process that involves coordination with our team and a few key steps on your end. This guide will walk you through the process to get your Irys instance up and running, securely connected to your data sources.

Step 1: Irys Instance Setup

The first step is to work with the Irys team to set up your dedicated instance.

  1. Contact the Irys sales team to initiate the setup process.
  2. Our team will create a dedicated Irys instance for your organization.
  3. We'll provide you with the necessary access information

Step 2: Azure Entra ID Configuration

To ensure secure access and integration with your existing infrastructure, you'll need to add two App Registrations to your Azure Entra ID (formerly Azure Active Directory) or equivalent system.

  1. Log in to your Azure portal.
  2. Navigate to Azure Entra ID > App registrations.
  3. Click on "New registration" to create two new app registrations: a. One for Irys b. One for Irys Hub

For each App Registration:

  1. Provide a name (e.g., "Irys User Auth" and "Irys PI Connector").
  2. Select the appropriate supported account types based on your organization's needs.
  3. Set the redirect URI as provided by the Irys team.
  4. Click "Register" to create the app registration.

After creating the app registrations, note down the following for each:

  • Application (client) ID
  • Directory (tenant) ID

Provide these details to the Irys team to complete the configuration on our end.

Note: If you're not using Azure Entra ID, please contact our support team for guidance on setting up equivalent authentication mechanisms in your environment.

Step 3: PI Connector Installation

The final step is to install the PI Connector in the network where your PI System resides. This process typically takes about 5 minutes.

  1. Obtain the PI Connector installation package (.msi file) from the Irys team.
  2. Ensure your system meets the following requirements:
    • AF SDK installed (comes with PI System Explorer)
    • .NET Framework 4.6
    • Windows Server (tested with Windows Server 2022)
  3. Run the .msi file to install the PI Connector.
  4. Once installed, open Windows Services and locate the "Irys PI Connection Service".
  5. Start the service and set it to "Automatic" startup type if not already configured.

Configuration:

  1. Ensure the system has outbound internet access over TCP port 443.
  2. Configure the PI Connector with the credentials provided by the Irys team.

Security Considerations

  • The PI Connector establishes an outbound-only connection to Irys Hub, eliminating the need for inbound firewall rules.
  • All data transmission is encrypted using industry-standard protocols.
  • The connection uses OAuth 2.0 for secure authentication.

Next Steps

Once these steps are completed, your Irys instance should be set up and securely connected to your PI System. The Irys team will verify the connection and provide you with access to your new Irys dashboard.
