Mobile App
Irys is designed from day one to look as good on mobile as it does on desktop.
Install Irys on Mobile
Irys can be installed as a Progressive Web App (PWA) on iPhone and Android devices.
Installing on iPhone
To download Irys on an iPhone, you "install" the web app on your home screen rather than downloading it from the App Store. Here's how you can do it:
- Open Safari Browser: Use Safari on your iPhone to navigate to Irys View. It's important to use Safari because other browsers might not support adding PWAs to the home screen.
- Access the Share Menu: Once the website is fully loaded, tap the share icon at the bottom of the Safari window. This icon looks like a square with an arrow pointing out of it.
- Add to Home Screen: In the share menu, scroll down until you see the "Add to Home Screen" option. Tap on this option. This action will prompt you to save the web application.
- Name the App: After tapping "Add to Home Screen," you can name the app (this name will appear under the app icon on your home screen).
- Once you've named the app, tap "Add" in the upper right corner of the screen. This will create a shortcut to the PWA on your home screen. Launch the app: You can now open the Irys app just like any other app on your iPhone by tapping its icon on your home screen. When opened, Irys can operate in a full-screen mode, offering a more app-like experience compared to a regular website.
Installing on Android
To download Irys on an Android device, you "install" the web app on your home screen rather than downloading it from the Google Play Store. Here's how you can do it:
- Open Chrome Browser: Navigate to Irys View using the Chrome browser on your Android device. It's important to use Chrome because it supports the installation of apps directly from the browser.
- Look for the Install Prompt: Chrome may automatically detect the PWA on the website and show a prompt at the bottom of the screen asking if you want to "Add to Home screen" or "Install" the app. If you see this prompt, you can simply tap on it to start the installation process. If you don't see the prompt, proceed to the next step.
- Use the Browser Menu: If the automatic prompt doesn't appear, tap on the three dots in the upper right corner of Chrome to open the browser menu.
- Add to Home Screen: In the menu, look for an option that says "Add to Home screen," "Install app," or something similar. The exact wording can vary depending on your version of Chrome and Android.
- Confirm Installation: After selecting "Add to Home screen" or "Install app," you might be asked to confirm the action and possibly edit the name of the shortcut. Once you're ready, confirm the installation.
- Find the App on Your Home Screen or App Drawer: Irys will now appear on your home screen and/or in your app drawer, just like any other app. You can tap it to open Irys in a full-screen experience, separate from your Chrome browser tabs.
- Launch Irys: Open the app from your home screen or app drawer. It should load in a standalone window without the usual browser interface, providing an app-like experience.
